Elliot, often referred to as the boy, is a mysterious young boy found under unusual circumstances who doesn't speak and becomes Maura's charge on board the Kerberos. It isn't until later that the boy reveals himself as Maura and Daniel's son, who assists his father in waking his mother up and ending the simulation.
Biography[]
Rescued from the Prometheus[]
The boy has been locked inside a cabinet on the Prometheus. He bangs on it from the inside until being released by Maura, who he hands a small pyramid shaped object over to.[1] He is then taken in by Maura, who inquires about the other passengers from the Prometheus, but he remains silent. Rather than speaking, he grabs the pyramid and hands it to Maura once more. Later, she discovers a triangle tattooed behind his ear. He grabs her wrist abruptly and places his finger over his lips in a shushing motion. Eyk then forces his way in and slams the boy against the wall, demanding to know what happened on the Prometheus until Maura intervenes and shoves him outside. Maura also shares with the boy that she's searching for her brother, who went missing the same time as the Prometheus, but still the boy says nothing.[2]
Alone in the room, the boy takes the pyramid and crawls under the bed. When he comes from under the bed with the pyramid, there's a knock at the door, and a green bug comes crawling under to unlock the cabin, allowing Daniel to enter. The boy picks up the bug as Daniel asks if he found "it." However, the boy did not.[3]
Thrown overboard[]
The boy hides in the tiled shaft under the bed after the mutineers come to the conclusion that he's the reason behind the strange deaths on board. After they leave, he uses a green bug to unlock the door, and he and Maura follow the boy, which leads them to Eyk. However, not far behind are the mutineers, who explains that they only want the boy. So he willingly gives himself over and is thrown overboard by Iben. However, he somehow manages to make his way back onto the ship and inside a cabinet.[4]
Startled by his inexplicable return, the crew lock him inside the cabinet. When Maura attempts to free him, one of the passengers open fire. Fortunately, he uses the pyramid to freeze time and escape with Maura, who demands answers. So he grabs a notepad and writes down "they are listening." He then pulls Maura close and whispers in her ear that she'll have to ask the Creator, before taking her down the tiled shaft into her memory, at which point, the boy disappears. He is later found by Daniel, who scolds him for brining Maura here. They've never made it this far, and the boy is hopeful that Maura might regain her memories. Unfortunately, they don't have much time, and Daniel needs to stop all of this before they sink the ship.[5]
Captured by Henry[]
The boy hides out in an underground bunker, where Daniel informs him they're shutting it down, he still hasn't found the code and that Maura, the boy's mother, still doesn't have her memories, including where she's hidden the code. Before leaving, the boy gives Daniel his mother's ring and says that she will wake up this time. However, shortly after his father leaves, Elliot is apprehended by Sebastian, who takes him and the pyramid to Henry.[6]
Elliot has a dream in which he's in a field with his mother, who he shows a green bug that he found, which she encourages him to release. Elliot then awakens after hearing his mother's voice tell him to "wake up." After awakening, his grandfather, Henry, claims that Elliot had been fooled by his mother and offers him an opportunity to learn the truth by taking Elliot back to the Mental Hospital, where he injects him with a syringe filled with a white substance that allows Elliot to recall a memory that was taken from him, in which his father was trying to convince his mother that she can't stop the boy from dying. The simulation isn't Maura's prison, rather it's Elliot's, created by his mother to keep the boy alive. [7]
