Synopsis[]

Several crew members and passengers search the ship for the boy after locking up the captain, Olek, Jérôme and Ramiro. Krester's secret is revealed.

Plot[]

Flashback to Lucien and Jérôme's time in the war; they were fellow French soldiers who'd taken refuge in a trench. With their commander for two days now dead, Lucien devised a plan to steal his identity and walk to the nearest military post, posing as a wounded lieutenant, but Jérôme feared the consequences of deserting their Legion. And so, Lucien was left with no other choice but to knock Jérôme unconscious. Jérôme awakens from a voice telling him to "wake up" and finds himself back in the cellar with Eyk, Ramiro, and Olek. Franz enters and takes Jérôme and Olek wit him. Eyk demands to be released and to know what Franz has planned, but he doesn't respond.

Jérôme and Olek are taken to the upper deck, where they discover a pile of dead bodies, all seemingly suffering from the same cause of death, which has yet to actually be determined. Fearful of what coming into contact with the bodies may transfer, Franz commands the two of them to throw the dead overboard.

The Kerberos is overtaken by the mutineers, who instruct the remaining passengers to remain in their respective cabins.

Franz returns to the bridge and learns from Wilhelm that the Prometheus is gone, despite the ghost ship having been tied to them moments earlier. Wilhelm suspects that it is not the Prometheus who disappeared, but the Kerberos, revealing that the compasses are working again and that they're now facing west despite previously facing east. Somehow, they're back in the position they were when they deviated from their course three days ago. Nevertheless, Franz reminds the crew that their destination lies west and commands Wilhelm to fire up the engines.

As more people begin to drop dead, the armed passengers demand answers, holding Sebastian and the rest of the crew who refused to bear arms at gunpoint. In an attempt to save his life, Sebastian reveals to the mutineers that the morning they returned from the Prometheus, they received a message from the ship company telling them to sink the ship. Sebastian suspects that they wanted it sank so no one could get off, which Tove translates to the others. Sebastian also points out that the deaths didn't start occurring until the boy was brought on board. This part, Tove refuses to translate in fear that the mob will go after the child. However, Krester has little apprehension about doing so. Iben suspects that the boy is the devil in disguise and grabs Tove's gun before leading the lynch mob in search of the boy.

Olek suspects that maybe these mysterious deaths is what happened to everyone on the Prometheus. He and Jérôme then grab Ada's body and toss her overboard. When reaching for the next body, Jérôme hallucinates that it is his dead commander, causing him to recoil in panic.

Clémence finds an empty vial near Lucien's work stand and asks to know what it is, but he's reluctant to tell her. Ultimately, he reveals that it's potassium bromide to help with his seizures. He explains that if he doesn't take it, he begins seizing uncontrollably, but if he does, then he can't get an erection. The truth is, Lucien fears he will die soon. A few weeks at most. He didn't tell her sooner because he knows that she doesn't actually care if he's dead or alive. Lucien then opens his drawer and finds his commander's medal inside. He slams Clémence against the wall in a fit of rage and asks where it came from before storming out abruptly.

Maura is apprehended and taken to Franz in the bridge. She demands to speak to the captain, but as Franz informs her, he's not the captain anymore and all passengers are supposed to be in their cabin. So, he orders his men to take her back to her room and lock her inside.

After breaking free of the pole holding him in place, Eyk and Ramiro escape through a wall vent.

Anker needs God's voice to guide them through these dark times, but God doesn't talk to him like He does Iben, Anker admits. Tove wonders if her father also believes the boy is evil. He's not certain, but he's at least considering the idea. He then places his hand on Tove's stomach and says that perhaps God gave her a gift with her child, allowing her to carry the light inside of her. However, Iben claims God told her that the devil will try to take everything from them, and that is something Anker refuses to allow to happen.

Sebastian takes Iben and the lynch mob to Maura's room just as she is being brought down the hall. Maura deduces that they want the boy and insists that he's not sick nor is it his fault people are dying. Unconvinced by her claims, Iben orders Krester to search Maura for her room key. Once inside, they look for the boy, but the room is seemingly empty, so they begin searching every inch of the ship. Frustrated by the boy's disappearance, Iben raises her gun to Maura before ordering the group to search every cabin. After the mutineers exit, locking the door behind them, Maura begins to hear a banging noise coming from beneath. She moves her bed and finds the boy hidden inside a secret tiled shaft.

Daniel sneaks into the engine room and plugs his hand held device into the alleged steam pressure measuring device installed by the company.

With the guards inattentive, Jérôme makes an attempt to sneak away, with Olek feigning that Jérôme fell overboard. They spot him attempting to climb across the railing and open fire. Fortunately, he evades the gun fire and makes it back onto the ship, where he begins to have flashbacks of his time at war. With the guards on his tail, Jérôme knocks on the door of Clémence's cabin. She offers him refuge and asks what happened to him. However, he leaves before Lucien can return, with Clémence joining him in his mission to help free the captain.

Olek is taken to Franz, who demands to know if he helped Jérôme escape, but Olek insists he didn't. Sebastian joins them in the bridge and informs Franz just how big of a mistake he's made by arming the passengers, comparing it to a powder keg waiting to explode. They have five days until they reach land. Until then, they must simply give the mutineers what they want — the boy.

Virginia exits her room to check out the commotion and is pushed against the wall as the mutineers check her room for the boy. After clearing her cabin, they lock her inside. From her cabin, they move forward throughout the ship, searching for the boy, eventually making their way to Yuk Je and Ling Yi. Once their cabin is cleared, they're locked inside as well.

Krester follows his mother into Ángel's cabin. When he sees one of the mutineers attempting to steal Ángel's pocket watch from the table, he calls out to Krester by name for help. Iben perks up at this revelation, demanding to know why Ángel knows his name. Iben then grabs the pocket watch one and drops it at Ángel's feet, before looking to Krester and saying that she wishes it would've been him instead of Ada. Ángel grabs Krester's arm as he walks away in tears, but with his mother watching, Krester feels as if he has no other choice but to push Ángel away and spits in his face.

Maura asks the boy what the shafts are for, but he does not speak. So, she decides to go searching for the captain, but first, she has to find a way out of the room, attempting to pick the lock open until the boy offers to help, taking a green bug out of his pocket and setting it on the floor. The door unlocks as it crawls underneath. She and the boy proceed to follow the bug throughout the ship.

Franz takes Olek back to the cellar, only to discover that Eyk and Ramiro have escaped through a vent. Meanwhile, the captain and the priest follow the vent to a secluded area of the ship, where they are joined by Jérôme and Clémence, who help Eyk break free of his shackles. The plan is to get to one of the lifeboats and possibly fix the telegraph on the Prometheus to call for help.

Out on the middle deck alone, Lucien tosses his commander's medal into the ocean before returning to his room to find the door ajar and Clémence missing. Fearful she may be in danger, he grabs his gun and goes searching for her.

Maura and the boy follow the bug to Eyk, Ramiro, Jérôme, and Clémence, unbeknownst to them that they're being watched by Krester. Maura asks Eyk if he's alright, but he's distant and accusative, demanding what she knows about the Prometheus. Before she can answer, Krester leads Franz and a small crew of mutineers to their location. He explains that they only want the boy, who turns himself over willingly. Refusing to allow the boy to be sacrificed, Jérôme lurches for a hammer on the ground and is shot by Franz, who then orders his men to take everyone else away as Jérôme bleeds out on the ground.

Jérôme awakens in a cell, but not on the ship, back in the trench during his war days with Lucien, who has stripped their commander of his clothes to take his identity and follow through with his plan. Lucien can now return to France a new man. While he could not set Jérôme free, he does give him the commander's medal. When he reaches the nearest military post, he'll tell them that Jérôme was a deserter, but Jérôme will be able to use the medal for barter in prison. When Lucien turns his back, Jérôme grabs him from between the bars and tries to choke him, but Lucien breaks free and punches Jérôme. When Jérôme awakens in reality, he finds that he's alone with a bullet wound in his left arm.

Tove pulls Krester aside to give him a reality check after seeing him with the boy and the other mutineers. She questions if he's truly willing to sacrifice the boy just for their mother's love. Krester replies that she has to stop blaming them for what happened to her. He claims that he's doing this because Ada died, and more people are dying, whilst Tove is only interested in her own misery.

Jérôme overpowers two guards outside the third class barracks and free the prisoners inside. He embraces Clémence and explains that it's up to them to stop the mutineers.

The mutineers have gathered on the upper deck with Iben, who claims that the boy is actually the devil, come to collect souls, just as he did on the Prometheus. She intends to throw the boy overboard but Maura attempts to convince them from doing so, insisting that the boy isn't responsible for the recent deaths. Unmoved by her pleas for mercy, a fight breaks out between the rivaling sides. Maura races across the deck to try and stop Iben from throwing the boy overboard. He puts up no resistance, but Maura can not reach him in time. Daniel finds Maura on the deck and pulls her to safety. Meanwhile, both sides retreat. It is then that Jérôme comes face-to-face with Lucien, who has his gun drawn. He pulls Clémence closer to him and retreats. Back inside, Lucien asks Clémence why she was with Jérôme and instructs her not to listen to anything he says.

Franz and the mutineers take refuge in the third class bunkers whilst Eyk, Maura, Daniel, and the other seek shelter in the dining room, where Maura recounts the boy's final moments. She is momentarily comforted by Daniel until Eyk demands to speak with her. He reveals that he found the logbook and shows her the passenger list from the Prometheus, which includes her name. He asks who she truly is. Before she can respond, the cabinet behind them begins to glow and banging can be heard from inside. It is then that the boy exits without saying so much as a word, only embracing Maura with the pyramid in hand.
